  • With not much planned before our evening flight back to Brisbane, the SO and I were going to wander around the city for a bit of last minute shopping and needed some breakfast to set the foundation of the day. We ended up at Jones the Grocer in Westfield Sydney for a caffeine hit (meh) and were one of the first through the day at opening.

  • What I find particularly poetic about Alfred Street's latest addition, gin bar Dutch Courage Officers' Mess is that owner Matthew Hilan was a former Air Combat Officer in the RAAF. Unfortunately I didn't get to taste any of the cocktails (crazy launch party!), but on the food front, I think Dutch Courage has some menu items worthy of your salivation.

  • My face and body often react when I consume alcohol, turning me into a red blotchy monster with a headache and inevitable grumpiness to match. The SO and I think I may be sensitive to the preservatives in beers and wines. With that said, there are a couple of wines I will and can happily have, and one of those is Samuel's Gorge from McClaren Vale. When we learnt Samuel's Gorge was holding a five course dinner at Malt Dining with matching wines (duh!) for $140 each, we knew this would be a grand treat.

  • Several years ago, my girlfriend Sassystrawberry dragged us to their Mandarin Gallery outlet in Singapore and we were blown away! Al dente ramen noodles with great flavourful broth - no wonder Sassystrawberry was so adamant we lunch there, but I never expected nor realised Ippudo has made it down under. And certainly not an outlet in Sydney’s Westfield.

  • It took a year, but when the opportunity came, I called a week prior to make dinner reservations at Billy Kwong over the long weekend. Billy Kwong served very Asian cuisine that was instantly familiar to us, yet not because of the use of Australian native ingredients that provided such an interesting and enjoyable dining experience.
