  • Unlike Sisco across the road, Spring Hill Deli is quieter and looks a little older, but there is an unmistakable calm when you have little wizened patrons on canes who park themselves at their curb side tables to start their day. That soothing sense that one should take in the simple pleasure of sipping an aromatic cup of hot coffee while catching up on the morning news saturates the air at Spring Hill Deli – a welcome change to the sterility of hospitals and clinics.

  • Speaking of charm, Bean on Dean has a bit of a rustic a-little-left-of-centre theme going with its re-purposed vintage metal bar stools, recycled paint drums and industrial spool furnishings. Perhaps the owners love DIY-ing, if the wall montage of workshop tools were any indication.

  • Even though I didn't quite get the breakfast I wanted, we certainly got a very positive service experience from The Burrow and I really hope to go back to have those Wookie Waffles.

  • I had a half the day off while my 2-week conference gig was in Brisbane. Being a sunny Saturday morning, laziness kicked in and we didn’t wander too far from the hotel and knuckled down at South Side Diner for breakfast. But I just don't think we'd be rushing to try their lunch or dinner menu after this experience.

  • Swimming works up an appetite, so after a shower back at the hotel, we were in the market for a good breakfast. While we walked back to the hotel, a place caught our eye - Barzura. It had been busy when we went to the beach and now walking back, we noted the buzz hadn’t waned.

  • The Heavens had opened up over Brisbane and I ordinarily love rainy days for the cool relief it brings. But not when we have to go out hunting for breakfast. A quick scan of my to-visit list directed me to the next nearest breakfast joint - Flute Food and Wine in our old stomping ground of Rosalie.

  • There have been numerous good things written about Pawpaw Café and it’s been high on my list to visit. When the SO asked where we should head for breakfast last month, I suggested we drop in to try them out. I was excited and had hoped to be as wow-ed as the other bloggers who seemed to have been with their food and service.
