  • Just off La Trobe Terrace on Collingwood St, the modern Middle Eastern influenced café Shouk is housed in a warm blue-grey corner shop that has seen a modern extension out the back, thus providing guests seated at the back of the café an almost bird’s eye picturesque view of the little suburbia towards Jubilee Terrace.

  • Unlike Sisco across the road, Spring Hill Deli is quieter and looks a little older, but there is an unmistakable calm when you have little wizened patrons on canes who park themselves at their curb side tables to start their day. That soothing sense that one should take in the simple pleasure of sipping an aromatic cup of hot coffee while catching up on the morning news saturates the air at Spring Hill Deli – a welcome change to the sterility of hospitals and clinics.

  • Despite his general lack of organisation skills, the SO had secretly made reservations at The Attic restaurant in Malt Dining on Market Street. It's been on my list to-visit, so I was really pleased to have finally made it there. However, when I had asked the SO if he had brought one of our proper cameras, he eyed me woefully and replied: "This is a birthday dinner, not a food blogging dinner."

  • SOL Breads is on the right track with their fundraising campaign in the fight against women's gynaecological cancer, an issue that's been close to my heart since I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. SOL Breads will donate 50 cents for every loaf purchased until 1st May 2014 to support Cherish Women's Cancer Foundation and gynaecological cancer research, aiming to raise AUD$75,000.
