Chinese New Year at our house

Chinese New Year reunion dinner

Happy Chinese New Year!

I just realised I haven’t been back to Singapore for Chinese New Year in almost 10 years.

That is a seriously long time, and while I certainly miss all the goodies and treats associated with the occasion, I certainly haven’t missed the annoying questions from noisy relatives. No idea what I’m talking about? Here’s a sneak peek into what Chinese New Year with all the relatives can be like.

Chinese New Year is usually a bit of a non-event for us, but it’s now important to share Little Mister’s Chinese heritage by celebrating the important tradition.

We invited the SO’s family to reunion dinner on the eve. Only his parents could attend, which was fine as I quickly realised it is impossible to plan a non-seafood and non-poultry Chinese New Year dinner for other family members.

Our Chinese New Year dinner menu:

  • Yu sheng with smoked salmon (the inlaws seemed to enjoy this sweet salad)
  • Steamed broccoli in oyster sauce
  • Steamed bream with goji berries
  • Steamed garlic prawns
  • Long beans with pork mince in black bean sauce

How did your Chinese New Year celebrations go?
