Smoked Paprika is not in our usual neck of the woods, which was precisely why we took a little drive to check it out for a late weekend breakfast.
It wasn’t easy to find a park close by. We had to park on Simpson Road and walk back down the junction to MacGregor Terrace.
Smoked Paprika was also quite busy. We weren’t fussy about where we would be seated and took a small table along the main entry way through the building. If you plan to bring a group on a weekend, I recommend calling ahead to make a booking.
As they were busy, the service didn’t start off well. We were directed to sit at the table, but it was several minutes before we realised menus and water were not forthcoming. I had to collect some menus from the counter inside myself, and it was only after we had made our order that we were asked if we wanted anything else (water please!). Our food arrived within a reasonable timeframe and everything was fine after that.
Smoked Paprika has a couple of variants of the Eggs Benedict for the breakfast traditionalist. Served on sourdough toast and homemade hollandaise sauce, choose between ham (AUD$15.50), bacon (still AUD$15.50) or salmon (AUD$16.50).
Their organic black quinoa porridge looked attractive. The organic black quinoa porridge starts with almond milk, coconut, Greek yoghurt, berries, pear, toasted pistachios and manuka honey for AUD$12.80. The Smoked Paprika breakfast also looked like a winner – spiced beef on turkish with poached eggs, hollandaise, rocket, cherry truss tomatoes, grilled haloumi for AUD$16.80. However these days I opt for menu items I can share with the Little Mister.
My choice of kale, pumpkin on zucchini fritters included caramelised onion and crumbled danish feta. Two perfectly poached eggs and bearnaise sauce topped the stack, with pistachio dukka generously sprinkled over. The kale didn’t taste ‘grassy’, and the chunks of roasted pumpkin were beautifully soft and naturally sweet. Everything about this plate was absolutely gorgeous and satisfying. If you are looking for a healthy breakfast that ticks all the veg boxes and doesn’t compromise on flavour, this one is for you.
The SO has been displaying a bit of a sweet tooth lately. His blueberry ricotta pancakes came with caramelised banana, maple syrup, honey macadamias, mascapone, mixed berry compote and crowned with Persian floss. He enjoyed it, but I am not a sweets-in-the-morning girl and found it too sweet for my liking.
Little Mister agreed and shared most of my pumpkin and zucchini fritters.
