Taka Japanese Cuisine, Perth

Perth has changed a bit since our last visit. There is now a Melbourne-sique vibe to the laneway action this west coast city has developed, adding to the excitement of urban exploration for us visitors. Taka Japanese Cuisine was one of these fortunate wrong-turn discoveries and we were not disappointed to have our Monday dinner there.

Taka Japanese Cuisine - interior

Don’t get me wrong – there is absolutely NOTHING fancy about Taka Japanese Cuisine. The orange plastic chairs were generic. The square faux birchwood tables were generic. The lighting was unflattering. The walls painted a pea green. The menu photos reminded me of the 80s.

Taka Japanese Cuisine - menu board

BUT they had a giant menu board at chest height (ie. no neck strains studying menu boards in the heavens) with simple descriptions and photos for those who have been living under a rock the last 50 years and are unfamiliar with Japanese cuisine.

The prices were also ridiculously reasonable. Most meals were under AUD$10, making it a perfect spot when it’s the end of the month and you can’t afford to splash out too much. The chicken katsu don and the ramen we had were AUD$8 and $9 respectively, and tasted fine. Sure, there could have been more egg over the chicken katsu or a runnier yolk with the ramen, but hey! It was cheap eats.
