Delisse: Sydney CDB Cafe

My parents were flabbergasted at the long queues snaking out of cafes every morning in Sydney. “What are they selling?!”, my mum exclaimed.

“Coffee.”, I replied, waving at scores of people in corporate wear impatiently fidgeting till their caffine hit. “People here need coffee in the morning.”.

My caffine-free mother shook her head in disbelief. She has never found pleasure in caressing a hot cup of aromatic coffee before facing a new challenging day. Sydney seemed full of hole-in-the-wall coffee joints for those on the run, but we had trouble finding a breakfast place that coaxed you to linger. Delisse on Clarance Street was the first we encountered and I fell in love with their pastry display. I couldn’t walk away without ordering a beautifully flakey almond croissant and coffee – doing it the Parisian way.

Prices were very reasonable and the service felt very welcoming. The staff were accommodating to our family of four and little bub, carefully bringing out our orders to the little table when they were ready.
