The Jam Pantry has been on my to-visit list ever since owner Naomi Zavackas (formerly the creator of Comfort at My Table and more widely known as Nims) opened her new business on Logan Road in January this year. And we managed to do just that enroute on an Ikea run (we love our cheap furniture) and finally dropping into the Jam Pantry for breakfast.
On that particular Saturday, we arrived just before a huge queue developed out the door. To say ‘The Jam Pantry is popular’ would be an understatement – couples and families can be accommodated with a little patience. We didn’t have a pram to lug around either, which made allocating a table for two much easier.
Every time we visit her former business Comfort at My Table, Nims’ menu made it almost impossible to choose and if this is the kind of food she loves to eat, well… I would love to be adopted by her.
Just look at that specials board!
I simply couldn’t resist The Jam Pantry‘s board special Fritters. Crispy edged fritters made from a batter of sweetcorn, polenta and oregano were served with prosciutto, a generous heap of ricotta, fresh pesto and roast tomatoes. Could this possibly be made it onto the permanent menu?
You have a choice between grilled leg ham or smoked salmon with the Eggs Benedict, that comes with a pair of perfectly poached eggs, dressed in Hollandaise sauce and microcress on sourdough toast and roasted Roma tomato.
I don’t know about the ham, but the salmon was divinely luscious – a savoury reminder of our Norwegian trip not too long ago. Fish is such an under appreciated protein at the breakfast table and while salmon is often the only fish offered at breakfast, we have found too many establishments here with overly salty, overly cooked or salmon. The Norwegians on the other hand, have got it right – and Nims, of course.
Look at that golden lava of perfection!
There was even a selection of products to take home with you, including jams, pickles and chutneys.
I’m so glad we got the opportunity to visit The Jam Pantry and I certainly hope we can drop in again!
