While my parents were visiting from Singapore, I discovered they had to have sliced bread – not toast – for breakfast every morning – typically with soft butter, peanut butter and jam. In fact they finished my jar of strawberry jam and almost the passionfruit and tomato one too.
So I would make pancakes every couple of days, but gave up whenever Bubby had had a hard night or I ran out of flour. To break the morning monotony, the SO and I took Bubby out to Little Loco around the corner for our first breakfast together on our own.
It might take a little effort to walk out the door now, but it’s worth it for the fresh air and decent coffee. It’s really easy to turn into a hermit when you’re a new mummy and consumed with caring for this tiny new being. No wonder women (and men) get post-natal depression.
And it gets even better with a delightful breakfast. I’ve seen Little Loco‘s lemon ricotta pancakes plastered all over Instagram and knew if I didn’t try them, I would never forgive myself. These were every bit as delicious as they look. Two extremely fluffy hotcakes were stacked in a pool of maple syrup, forming an island for a paradise forest of cinnamon honey mascarpone and sliced fresh seasonal fruit with a sprig or two of mint. That combination was sensational and I especially loved the cinnamon honey mascarpone, slathering it onto every bite.
The savory and heartier Breakfast Burger beats the first hunger pangs with streaky bacon, a fried egg, smoked tomato relish, mature cheddar and avocado on a toast brioche bun. Little Loco‘s Breakfast Burger is what you’d order as part of a hangover cure from an epic party – it hits all the right buttons with a savoury moorish strip of bacon, succulent egg and fresh avocado. Only personally I think Boom Boom Burger has a better and softer brioche bun, but otherwise we give this one a big thumbs up.
