Get on fire with Pizza Capers Inferno Challenge

Coming from Singapore, I have a thing for chilli, but I’ve lost some of my tolerance having lived in Australia the last six years. While I still try my darnedest to eat food as spicy as possible when I can get it, I also have to be prepared for disappointment when food arrives at ‘white man’ chilli levels.

It’s really racist to call it ‘white man’ spiciness, because in truth, several Aussie friends have fiendishly high tolerances for chilli and I wept in their midst. But it’s apparently a thing and I have been so jaded by the spicy claims from advertisers, I rarely am prepared when something does match up to its claim.

Pizza Capers teamed up with hot sauce masters Tabasco to bring their new Inferno range. Each pizza comes with these adorably tiny Tabasco sauce bottles, so you can amp the heat with every slice.

Each Tabasco pack also comes with a scorecard, which adds a fun element if you’re sharing with friends and want to see who can best handle the heat.

While the spicy corn empanadas and the chimichanga chorizo and prawn pizza didn’t really tickle our tastebuds spice-wise on their own, they were surprisingly tasty. Do be carefully about the empanadas: we had two burst with the liquid inside when we bit into them.

The Inferno wings were spicier, but the chipotle pulled pork pizza took the championship. Without adding any Tabasco sauce, this baby had our nose dribbling and us reaching for the glass of water, yet coming back for more. This was probably due to the smoked chipotle peppers, so if you’re not keen on taking the spice hit, you should be fine if you pull those off. I personally wouldn’t, but that’s because I’m rejoicing there’s finally a spicy pizza that can actually claim it is an inferno.
