  • My face and body often react when I consume alcohol, turning me into a red blotchy monster with a headache and inevitable grumpiness to match. The SO and I think I may be sensitive to the preservatives in beers and wines. With that said, there are a couple of wines I will and can happily have, and one of those is Samuel's Gorge from McClaren Vale. When we learnt Samuel's Gorge was holding a five course dinner at Malt Dining with matching wines (duh!) for $140 each, we knew this would be a grand treat.

  • The north side now has a new market, set in the old QUT Carseldine campus… or the new Carseldine Government Office Precinct and I haven’t been to a market in such a long time. Obviously named Carseldine Markets, it opened this weekend with over 140 stalls and to a ridiculously warm welcome by thousands of locals.

  • Most days of the week, I am chained to my desk and drowning in work. Even when I'm not, our office doesn't have a lunch room, so lunch is usually a sad affair at my own desk. So it's a rare treat when I get to lunch with a girlfriend somewhere in town and thanks to an invitation to try Four Points by Sheraton Brisbane's Wrapped Cafe, I caught up with an ex-colleague who I adore and miss terribly for lunch.

  • Several years ago, my girlfriend Sassystrawberry dragged us to their Mandarin Gallery outlet in Singapore and we were blown away! Al dente ramen noodles with great flavourful broth - no wonder Sassystrawberry was so adamant we lunch there, but I never expected nor realised Ippudo has made it down under. And certainly not an outlet in Sydney’s Westfield.

  • It took a year, but when the opportunity came, I called a week prior to make dinner reservations at Billy Kwong over the long weekend. Billy Kwong served very Asian cuisine that was instantly familiar to us, yet not because of the use of Australian native ingredients that provided such an interesting and enjoyable dining experience.
