Spring Hill Deli

Another morning, another hospital appointment. After watching the SO scoff down a breakfast roll, while the nurses finished up with me, I insisted he do me the courtesy of taking me to Spring Hill Deli round the corner, so I could break my own fast.

Unlike Sisco across the road, Spring Hill Deli is quieter and looks a little older, but there is an unmistakable calm when you have little wizened patrons on canes who park themselves at their curb side tables to start their day. That soothing sense that one should take in the simple pleasure of sipping an aromatic cup of hot coffee while catching up on the morning news saturates the air at Spring Hill Deli – a welcome change to the sterility of hospitals and clinics.

That said, Spring Hill Deli is not blind to the needs of its neighbourhood clientele of rushing medical staff, who need to grab something quick on the go – muffins, scones, rolls… they have them fresh on the counter, ready to be pounced upon.

Spring Hill Deli - Mediterranean eggs. AUD$17

Mediterranean eggs. AUD$17

The Mediterranean eggs came with slices of sourdough slathered first with pesto and goats chevre, before being topped with spinach and two fried eggs with a sprinkling of dukkah. It’s a hearty breakfast without the ho-hum of artery clogging bacon, which had me contentedly napping at home afterward from the food coma.
