Space Invaders Australia Day BBQ

Almost every Australia Day weekend for us has meant camping at Stradbroke Island, getting back to basics and enjoying the sun and surf with friends. We have beer for breakfast, some pretty sweet gourmet homecooked meals on our camping stove and sleeping under the stars.

Unfortunately the SO’s epic elbow injury has meant we’ve had to skip this year’s Australia Day weekend camp trip, which as it turns out, wasn’t a bad thing. The city has gone quiet with the mass exodus of residents up and down the coast, leaving plenty of space for those of us who were left behind.

It has also meant we could hit up the Space Invaders Australia Day BBQ, a fundraising BBQ in New Farm Park on Australia Day with all profits going towards the Space Invaders team‘s fundraising goal of $2000.

Who are the Space Invaders? It’s these guys.

Tammy, Hao, Jessalyn and Henry

Fundraising sausage sizzles are pretty commonplace, but these guys upped it by also offering burgers (AUD$4), Vietnamese chicken skewers, chicken satay skewers, salad (AUD$0.50), orange jelly cups, regular jelly cups and cool drink.

If you missed out on the BBQ, you can still make a donation to the team’s Oxfam Trailwalker page here. These guys will be walking 100km over 48 hours through Mt Glorious to Mt Coot-tha.

I gotta say their burgers were pretty good – I had two of them! The Vietnamese chicken skewers were good too, especially as – Jessalyn put it – ‘they’re made by real Vietnamese’. Gotta love homemade.
