Little Lamb Hot Pot

It has been a hard month, so the team at work scheduled a night out to pig out at Little Lamb. They run dinner service – AUD$30 per person for all-you-can-eat steamboat and BBQ skewers. You pay at the door, select your hotpot, pointed to your allocated table before you’re set free to choose whatever you want from the smorgasbord of food.

Unlike many hotpot joints, each table has its own automated charcoal BBQ rotisserie, as well as the hotpot. A fresh tray of glowing hot embers is installed at your table upon which you can fix an array of metal skewers to rotate. The selection of skewers is mindblowing:

  • A variety of lamb, beef and chicken marinated skewers
  • Prawns
  • Fish
  • Mussels
  • Offal

Little Lamb offers several soup base options and depending on the size of the pot you go for, you might choose one, two or all three soups – vegetarian, plain and a red herbal soup stock. Again, the options of fresh and raw food to cook to your heart’s content seems endless – meat, baby octopus, clams, mushrooms, vegetables, noodles, tofu, etc.

Also included in the price are pre-cooked entrees, such as fried chicken, dumplings, cold dishes and shallot pancakes, a choice of 2 drinks (beer is available at extra cost) and dessert (at the time, there were tubs of inexpensive ice-cream and sago in coconut milk).

The six of us who dined ate an unimaginable amount of food, including 48 skewers and 4 plates of finely sliced beef. For $30 per head, the food is pretty good – the meats are well-marinated and the variety is amazing.

The service at the door sucks – the cashier didn’t smile, barely spoke and was barely polite. There were not too many people walking the floor, but they removed empty plates at a reasonable pace.

As with any hotpot and/or BBQ establishment, be prepared to come away smelling like the grill. Come to Little Lamb with an empty stomach and get ready to roll out the door.
