A rainy afternoon sewing project: tablecloths

I love it whenever our free Ikea catalogue turns up on our doorstep.

Curling up on the couch with a mug of tea to slowly flip through the pages is the perfect way to oogle all the gorgeous home decor styling and spark some inspiration.

Much of our present furniture is from Ikea – purchased as newly weds and wanting desperately to move up from milk crate coffee tables and stools (yes, very daggy, I know) – but our home looks nothing like the catalogue pages.

So rather than spend a bucketload on brand new furniture, I decided to accessorise the ones we do have! And the first thing that needed a makeover was our breakfast table of unfinished pine. It has gotten a little stained and worn over the last three years, but nothing a little TLC might fix – if we had a sander and some wood stain.

Instead I took a couple of measurements, picked up some fabric for less than AUD$10 a metre and two hours of pinning, pressing and sewing the hems later, tadah!

Now it’s heaps easier to clean the table of crumbs.

And change the look of the breakfast nook with a little flick of fabric.

How do you dress your table?
