RSPCA Cupcake Day

RSPCA Cupcake Day in 2011 was Monday 15 August. Registered RSPCA Cupcake Cooks across Australia preheated their ovens and wielded their whisks to bake a storm to hit up schools, workplaces and social groups with scrumptious homemade cupcakes for donations to the RSPCA.

A friend hosted a high tea over the weekend instead and kindly invited me to come along, for a $20 donation to the cause.

I figured: why not? The RSPCA were real champs when a lost dog followed me home two months ago and I dropped him off at RSPCA Fairfield to ask them to find/contact their owner. They do good work there.

What I didn’t expect was the magnitude of food she prepared. Boy, did she cook and bake up a storm!

Melting moments, coconut and lime macarons, smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, jam and camembert cheese sandwiches, and of course, cupcakes… And a wide assortment of teas, including a sticky toffee pudding one that smells divine. The list just goes on and I was so stuffed by the end of it.

Last year, RSCPA Cupcake Day raised $1.1 million to assist in the care and protection of the animals of Australia. This year’s target is $3 million and they are still a-ways to go.

Donate now to your state’s RSPCA, any of the registered RSPCA Cupcake Cooks…

Or if you reckon this spread is pretty darn awesome (and trust me, it certainly tasted phenomenal) and the cook totally deserves kudos for slaving in the kitchen, donate to her RSPCA page!
