Dinner at Hofer. Der Stadtwirt

After exploring Munich city, our throats were parched, feet were sore and tummies were rambling like an earthquake. My sister’s fiance dragged us to one of the most recognised and oldest establishments, Hofer. Der Stadtwirt.

Hofer. Der Stadtwirt has such a variety of dining areas, it’s a little hard to choose where to plant yourself. Obviously the bar and cozy restaurant area on the ground floor is extremely busy, so we headed upstairs to the quieter (but by no means empty) Patrizierstube and Kaminzimmer area to start on quenching our thirst with some Löwenbräu.

The menu has a reasonable selection and everything had English translation, making it easier for us non-German speakers to make up our own minds. And the wait staff were more than happy to offer recommendations if you become too perplexed.

Fleischpflanzerl mit Kartoffel-Gurkensalat. €9,20

This was my favorite dish. The meat was really tender and possibly some of the nicest potato salad I had on the trip.

Ochsenbraten geschmort in Rotwein mit Blaukraut und Semmelknödel. €12,50

6 Stück Nürnberger Bratwürstl mit Sauerkraut und Breze. €9,90

My sister’s fiance was quite hesitant about the Nürnberger Bratwürstl – he said he’s had one too many bad ones in the past at other establishments and generally avoids them. But I offered one to him from my plate and he found it quite well prepared.
