The Bird In Hand Bar and Restaurant – If your mind is as ‘inclined’ as mine is, you would totally understand why I couldn’t help giggling everytime we walked past it to and from our holiday apartment.
Yes, my mind is a permanent resident of the gutter.
But aside from the name, the Bird in Hand is a gorgeous neighbourhood bar (and restaurant – their menu selection looked very reasonable) with some of the friendliest staff we had the pleasure of meeting on our trip.
The SO was keen to try local brews and the bartender kindly poured out a small shot-glass worth for him to sample. After I tasted it and went ‘nup’ (making the staff and a regular burst out in laughter at my expression), she recommended I try something just as British – Pimm’s.
Pimm’s is a liqueur and prepared as a summer beverage in many London establishments. Usually it is served with lemonade, strawberries/lemon/apple, cucumber and mint. It’s really refreshing and I loved the one the bartender prepared for me.
What was even better was as we watched her make the drink, we got to chatting with the other staff and a regular at the bar. They asked where we were from, shared their travels a little and chatted about things in the immediate area.
It’s a pity we didn’t have much more time in London, because I would have loved to have spent more time relaxing at the Bird In Hand.
Do you have a great bar in your area?
