Jamie’s Italian, London

Erushi and I have been playing verbal ping-pong for almost 2 weeks prior to our trip, trying to nail down a place to catch up for dinner while we were in London.

And we finally settled on Jamie’s Italian, since we really wanted to dine in a celebrity chef’s establishment and we didn’t have the time to chug down to Fat Duck.

Jamie’s Italian doesn’t take bookings and invites diners to just come along whenever the fancy strikes. We did and there was a long line, the restaurant was full and the maître d’, while in complete control, seemed a little frazzled.

We were told we would have to wait 1.5 hours for a table, so after leaving our mobile number, we went to a nearby pub for pre-dinner drinks. It turned out to only take 1 hour, which is fine if you’re not starving and even if you were, thankfully service was very friendly and it did not take long for them to bring us our order.

Wild truffle risotto. £6.75/£11.50

Bucatini Carbonara. £6.55/£10.25

Crab and squid ink pasta. £8.50/£13.50

The flavours of the pasta and risotto are lovely, especially the squid ink and crab, but both the rice and pasta are a touch more firmer than I would usually like them. If the pasta had been cooked an extra 2 minutes and the risotto another 5, it would’ve been perfect in my book.
